No pay-to-win

From the village bistro to the Palace. — For generations, families have played President: first to empty their hand rules, last one serves everyone else. Now the winner doesn't just reign: they pick up the red telephone and sign a decree. Curfew, U-Turn, Income Tax, Uprising… 60 laws to bend the next round.

The opposition decries an "abuse of power". The President reminds everyone that four of a kind can flip it all — and that the Constitution holds only five laws at a time.

How it works

President card game rules in 30 seconds

Empty your hand first

Beat the last play with a higher single, pair or triple — or pass. First out is President. Last out is the Scum.

"X or nothing"

Someone matches the value? The next player must match it too or pass. Jokers are wild.

Four of a kind = revolution

Four of a kind flips the card order: the weak become strong. The President starts sweating.

The winner makes the rules

The President signs a decree for the next round. The Scum hands over their best cards, the President gives back their worst. Chips go to the pot.

How to play President (Scum), in detail

  • 4 to 8 players, a 52-card deck plus 2 jokers. Jokers are wild and stand in for any card.
  • Card order: 3 < 4 < … < King < Ace < 2. The 2 is the top card and closes the trick.
  • Play a single, a pair, three or four of a kind — no runs. The next player plays the same number of cards, equal or higher, or passes.
  • "8 or nothing!": match the previous value and the next player must match it too or pass.
  • Four of a kind starts a revolution: the order flips and 3s become the top cards. Another four of a kind flips it back.
  • First to empty their hand becomes President, last becomes the Scum. Next round, the Scum hands their best cards to the President.

What Coup d'État adds: the President signs a decree that changes the rules for the next round.
